The RCM Philharmonic gives a world premiere by RCM composer Jasper Eaglesfield alongside two atmospheric 20th-century British scores by Bax and Britten.
Winner of the RCM Large Ensemble Composition Competition, Jasper Eaglesfield is one to watch – his music is featured in two events this season, with his mini-opera being staged in June as part of the RCM’s opera showcase Revolutions. This performance includes his new work, Many Hands in High Places, which features an intense cadenza that pushes the solo percussionists to their limits.

Bax’s tone poem Christmas Eve is a call for the peaceful spirit of Christmas to be felt year-round, described by Bax as evoking 'the sharp light and frosty stars and an ecstasy of peace'. The Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes by RCM alumnus Benjamin Britten conjure up the stillness of 'Dawn' and 'Moonlight', chattering gossips on 'Sunday Morning', and a ferocious 'Storm'.
