This is a program that requires no justification other than the pleasure of listening to three of the most beautiful works in the orchestral repertoire. Le Tombeau resplendissant , first of all, as its title indicates, is a splendid page, which is one of the very first scores written for the orchestra by Messiaen, and which was premiered by the great Pierre Monteux. The Pathetic Symphony , with its melancholic waltz and its frantic march, ends like a silent requiem. Between the two, Diana Damrau will reunite with Richard Strauss, a greedy cantor inspired by the female voice, and will ask the famous question which is the very issue of Capriccio  : “  Prima la musica? e poi the word?  »

Voilà un programme qui ne requiert aucune justification sinon le plaisir d’écouter trois œuvres parmi les plus belles du répertoire pour orchestre. Le Tombeau resplendissant, d’abord, comme son titre l’indique, est une page splendide, qui fait partie des toutes premières partitions écrites pour l’orchestre par Messiaen, et qui fut créée par le grand Pierre Monteux. On ne présente plus la Symphonie pathétique, avec sa valse mélancolique et sa marche frénétique, qui s’achève à la manière d’un requiem muet. Entre les deux, Diana Damrau retrouvera Richard Strauss, chantre gourmand et inspiré de la voix féminine, et posera la célèbre question qui est l’enjeu même de Capriccio : « Prima la musica ? e poi le parole ? »
