This takes place in the house where the future great composer Leoncavallo is growing up. Years later, the tragic story became the plot of the best-selling opera "Pagliacci" - a performance in which the audience has been shedding sincere tears in all corners of the globe for more than a hundred years! For "Helikon" "Pagliacci" is a landmark opera. It was once played in the open air in the courtyard of Princess Shakhovskoy's mansion, where the Stravinsky auditorium is now located. Young and fearless artists drove into the courtyard in an orange Zaporozhets and with crazy drive and passion "played" the opera. This was the beginning of the great successful history of "Helikon". The current production by Dmitry Belyanushkin, winner of the First Competition for Young Directors "Nano-Opera", is the third in the history of Helikon's "Pagliacci". The young director dedicated his performance to the theater and the people who work and live in it. The audience is made aware of how thin the line is sometimes between real life and its stage embodiment, and how merciless the artist's profession is. Developing the idea of ​​"play within a play", the director transfers the action from the Italian countryside to the theatrical backstage. Suffering offended Canio, burning handsome Silvio, touching Nedda, rude Tonio, funny Beppo - every image created by the theater artists is etched into the memory.
