Straordinaria figura chiave nella musica di oggi, Pierre-Laurent Aimard ha collaborato con numerosi importanti compositori, tra cui György Ligeti (del quale ha inciso l’opera completa per pianoforte), Karlheinz Stockhausen, George Benjamin, Pierre Boulez e Olivier Messiaen, di cui nel corso delle ultime stagioni ha pubblicato l'incisione, per Pentatone, del “Catalogue d’Oiseaux”, vincitore di numerosi premi discografici internazionali come il Deutscher Schallplattenpreis.
Aimard è stato anche insignito dell’importantissimo Premio Ernst von Siemens nel 2017. Nel 2020 i suoi programmi, eseguiti in tutto il mondo, si basano sul tema “Beethoven l’avanguardista”, tour de force di brani pianistici che trascendono i repertori abituali: Aimard giustappone i classici viennesi a compositori dell’avanguardia, svelandone le sorprendenti affinità.
Intensa la collaborazione con le più importanti orchestre europee e statunitensi, come la Chicago Symphony. All'attività concertistica Aimard unisce anche un'importante carriera didattica come docente della Hochschule für Musik di Colonia e in varie masterclass presso rinomate istituzioni. È membro della Bayerische Akademie der Schönen Künste e protagonista di un ciclo dedicato a György Ligeti “Explore the Score”, approdo finale di una lunga familiarità con la musica di questo compositore.

An extraordinary key figure in music today, Pierre-Laurent Aimard has collaborated with a number of important composers, including György Ligeti (whose complete piano works he recorded), Karlheinz Stockhausen, George Benjamin, Pierre Boulez and Olivier Messiaen, whose over the last few seasons he has published the recording, for Pentatone, of the “Catalogue d'Oiseaux”, winner of numerous international record awards such as the Deutscher Schallplattenpreis.
Aimard was also awarded the very important Ernst von Siemens Prize in 2017. In 2020 his programs, performed all over the world, are based on the theme “Beethoven the avant-garde”, a tour de force of piano pieces that transcend the usual repertoires: Aimard juxtaposes the Viennese classics with avant-garde composers, revealing their surprising affinities.
Intense collaboration with the most important European and American orchestras, such as the Chicago Symphony. Aimard also combines his concert activity with an important teaching career as a professor at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne and in various masterclasses at renowned institutions. He is a member of the Bayerische Akademie der Schönen Künste and protagonist of a cycle dedicated to György Ligeti "Explore the Score", the final result of a long familiarity with the music of this composer.
