According to a Hebrew tradition, Lilith was the first wife of Adam. This story, which evolved from a verse in Genesis (“Male and female created he them”), describes her as an insubordinate woman, who flees from Eden so as to avoid surrendering to Adam, and associates her with the world of the night, magic and the lunar. But today Lilith is also a symbol of the free and empowered woman. The richness and variety of this imagery has inspired the chamber opera Lilith, luna negra, which will now be premiered in Madrid.
This initiative in the area of contemporary Spanish music adds to the productions of chamber opera performed at the Foundation in recent seasons.
