Tick's appearances as a drag queen in Sydney are only moderately successful. When his ex-wife answers and asks him to perform in the hotel she manages in Alice Springs, he brings two friends together, Bernadette, a transsexual who is no longer very fresh, and the young Adam. They embark on the journey of a lifetime across the Australian outback in a dismantled bus named Priscilla. Stephan Elliott's film was a surprise hit and won an Oscar in 1995.
