"From now on I dream of leading my own life and I want to go to Italy with a doll as a man." - Baby is tired of her old life. She doesn't want to do what society asks of her, but to be independent. Jack and Franz, her two lovers, don't like that at all. Where would we be if all women got dolls instead of men! They come up with a plan: If they dress up as dolls and make life difficult for her, she will come back to them. Baby's friend Dolly, on the other hand, is confronted with completely different problems: Men ignore her and she doesn't have any dolls to replace her either. Then she falls into the clutches of the Society of Friends of Crime. She and the mysterious Duran-Duran have interests of their own,

Clichés, black humor, social criticism - in Mädchen in Not the audience accompanies the four main characters on a comically absurd journey that is increasingly becoming a nightmare. The musical version of Anne Lepper's play of the same name is the responsibility of the composer Michael Essl, who works across genres and incorporates elements of film music and jazz into his compositions. Under the direction of director Sybrand van der Werf, who loves to experiment, the result is a play that entertains, confuses and gives food for thought.

„Ab sofort träume ich davon, mein eigenes Leben zu führen und ich will mit einer Puppe als Mann nach Italien.“ – Baby hat ihr altes Leben satt. Sie will nicht das tun, was die Gesellschaft von ihr verlangt, sondern eigenständig sein. Das passt Jack und Franz, ihren zwei Liebhabern, gar nicht. Wo kämen wir da hin, wenn sich alle Frauen Puppen statt Männer zulegen würden! Sie fassen einen Plan: Wenn sie sich als Puppen verkleiden und ihr das Leben schwer machen, wird sie schon zu ihnen zurückkommen. Babys Freundin Dolly hingegen sieht sich mit ganz anderen Problemen konfrontiert: Männer lassen sie links liegen und Puppen als Ersatz hat sie auch keine. Dann gerät sie auch noch in die Fänge der Gesellschaft der Freunde des Verbrechens…

Klischees, schwarzer Humor, Gesellschaftskritik – in Mädchen in Not begleitet das Publikum die vier Hauptfiguren auf einer komisch-absurden Reise, die immer mehr zum Albtraum wird. Pointiert und provokativ werden hierbei aktuelle gesellschaftliche Probleme wie Gewalt, Rassismus, Ausgrenzung, Bodyshaming, Homophobie und Frauenfeindlichkeit miteinander verzahnt. Die musikalische Fassung des gleichnamigen Schauspielstücks von Anne Lepper obliegt dem Komponisten Michael Essl, der ein zeitgenössisches Klangbild formt, indem die dystopische Handlung mittels Musikzitaten von Strawinskys Sacre du printemps bis hin zu Wagners „Walkürenritt“ satirisch überzeichnet wird. Unter der Regie des experimentierfreudigen Regisseurs Sybrand van der Werf entsteht so ein Stück, das unterhält, verwirrt und Denkanstöße gibt.
