Il QUATUOR DIOTIMA, costituito nel 1996 da studenti del Conservatorio Nazionale di Parigi, è uno degli ensemble da camera più richiesti al mondo. Il nome del quartetto evoca un doppio significato musicale: Diotima è al contempo un’allegoria del romanticismo tedesco – Friederich Hölderlin dà questo nome all’amore della sua vita nel suo romanzo “Hyperion” – e un grido di battaglia per la musica del nostro tempo, brandito da Luigi Nono nella sua composizione “Fragmente-Stille, an Diotima”.
Il Quatuor Diotima ha lavorato in stretta collaborazione con alcuni dei più grandi compositori del XX secolo, in particolare Pierre Boulez (che ha revisionato il suo “Livre pour Quatuor” per loro) e Helmut Lachenmann. Il quartetto commissiona regolarmente nuovi lavori ai più brillanti compositori contemporanei, come Toshio Hosokawa, Miroslav Srnka, Alberto Posadas, Mauro Lanza, Gérard Pesson, Rebecca Saunders e Tristan Murail. Il repertorio del quartetto spazia da lavori dei secoli XIX e XX, in particolare Beethoven, Schubert, la Seconda scuola viennese (Schönberg, Berg e Webern), così come Janácek, Debussy, Ravel e Bartók. La sua ampia discografi a è stata regolarmente elogiata e premiata dalla stampa musicale internazionale: “Diapason d’Or” della rivista francese Diapason (cinque premi tra cui due “Best of the Year”), Classica (“Best of the Year”), Télérama, Grammophone (“Editor’s Choice”), The Strad, e molti altri. Il Quatuor Diotima ha registrato in esclusiva per l’etichetta Naïve per dieci anni; nel 2016 ha lanciato, per la stessa etichetta, la collezione “Diotima”, dedicata alle opere dei maggiori compositori dei nostri tempi. Dal 2008 il Quatuor Diotima ha avuto un rapporto privilegiato
con la Région Centre-Val de Loire, che lo ospita in residenza: questa collaborazione ha portato alla creazione di un importante laboratorio per progetti artistici e pedagogici. Il Quatuor Diotima ha ideato una serie di concerti a Orléans che unisce la nuova generazione di quartetti con ensemble affermati. Il Quatuor Diotima appare regolarmente nelle più prestigiose sale e stagioni concertistiche al mondo. Nella stagione 2018/2019 sarà ospite di rinomati festival di musica da camera (Schubertiade di Schwarzenberg, Opéra de Montpellier, Printemps des Arts di Monte Carlo, Pierre Boulez Saal di Berlino) e di musica contemporanea (Musica di Strasburgo, Présences di Parigi, Ultraschall di Berlino). Nell’autunno del 2018 il quartetto ha iniziato una residenza di tre anni presso Radio France a Parigi.

The QUATUOR DIOTIMA, formed in 1996 by students of the Paris National Conservatory, is one of the most sought-after chamber ensembles in the world. The quartet's name evokes a double musical meaning: Diotima is both an allegory of German romanticism – Friederich Hölderlin gives this name to the love of his life in his novel “Hyperion” – and a rallying cry for the music of our time , brandished by Luigi Nono in his composition “Fragmente-Stille, an Diotima”.
