Since winning the famous Chopin Competition in 2015, South Korean pianist Seong-Jin Cho is one of the world's most sought-after soloists. At this concert we hear him in Saint-Saën's colorful Fifth Piano Concerto. Saint-Saëns himself said that it could be compared to a sea voyage. The concerto was composed in Luxor and because of the influences from there it is often called the Egyptian one. 

We also get to experience Rachmaninov's very last work, the symphonic dances where he dreams back to the Russia of his childhood. Plus American Pulitzer Prize winner Caroline Shaw's dreamily imaginative Entr'acte – music inspired by a string quartet by Joseph Haydn. Caroline Shaw talks about how certain music can take the listener to another world, such as the minuets in Haydn's op 77: "a kind of absurd, subtle and colorful transformation", she says.

The Royal Philharmonic is led by the award-winning American conductor Ryan Bancroft, who from this season is the Royal Philharmonic's chief conductor.

Sedan vinsten i den berömda Chopintävlingen 2015 är den Sydkoreanske pianisten Seong-Jin Cho en av världens mest efterfrågade solister. Vid den här konserten hör vi honom i Saint-Saëns färgrika femte pianokonsert. Saint-Saëns sade själv att den kunde liknas vid en sjöresa. Konserten är komponerad i Luxor och på grund av influenserna därifrån kallas den ofta för den egyptiska. 

Vi får också uppleva Rachmaninovs allra sista verk, de symfoniska danserna där han drömmer sig tillbaka till barndomens Ryssland. Dessutom den amerikanska Pulitzerpristagaren Caroline Shaws drömskt fantasifulla Entr’acte – musik som är inspirerad av en stråkkvartett av Joseph Haydn. Caroline Shaw talar om hur viss musik kan föra lyssnaren till en annan värld, som just menuetterna i Haydns op 77: ”en sorts absurd, subtil och färgstark förvandling”, säger hon.

Kungliga Filharmonikerna leds av den prisbelönte amerikanske dirigenten Ryan Bancroft som från denna säsong är Kungliga Filharmonikernas chefdirigent.
