26 апреля состоится премьера аудиовизуального перформанса на музыку американского композитора Стива Райха. Впервые в России партитуру «Reich/Richter» исполнит оркестр фестиваля актуальной музыки SOUND UP, в который вошли лучшие исполнители столицы, интересующиеся актуальным музыкальным искусством.

Сказать, что мы живем в мире, созданном Стивом Райхом не будет преувеличением. Еще в 1960-е годы он и его единомышленники представили миру новое направление — минимализм, определившее развитие музыки на десятилетия вперед. О влиянии этого стиля на их творчество открыто говорят авторы самых разных мастей, от Джона Адамса до Брайна Ино. На протяжение сорока лет Райх находится в эпицентре современного искусства, а премьера «Reich/Richter» стала одним из главных музыкальных событий Америки 2019 года.

«Reich/Richter» — точка встречи живого классика американской музыки и одного из самых влиятельных художников в мире Герхарда Рихтера. Биографию мастера немецкой живописи принято описывать исключительно в словах превосходной степени: за полувековую творческую карьеру Рихтер перепробовал разные стили и техники, от абстракционизма до фотореализма, достиг статуса одного из самых высокооплачиваемым художников на Западе и удостоился личного павильона на Венецианской биеннале. Рихтер обратился к Райху за партитурой для фильма «Moving Picture (946-3)», в котором вместе с режиссером Коринной Белц переосмыслил собственную работу «Abstract painting» (1990): дробя цифровую версию живописного полотна на разное количество полос, от двух до 8190, зеркально отражая и передвигая их по экрану, Рихтер исследует, как из одной картины может произойти неисчислимое множество новых изображений. Вдохновившись методом работы Рихтера, композитор создал «Reich/Richter» — один из шедевров своего позднего периода.

У российских слушателей появится шанс вживую услышать опус «Reich/Richter» в исполнении SOUND UP orchestra во главе с дирижером Станиславом Малышевым. Это не первая коллаборация музыканта с фестивалем SOUND UP: Малышев дирижировал российской премьерой «Concerto for Turntables» Габриэля Прокофьева, участвовал в проекте «Революция в звуке» в Новой Третьяковке, знакомил аудиторию с музыкой исландского композитора Йохана Йоханнссона и открывал фестиваль ближневосточной музыки «Mawaheb» концертом «SOUND UP: music of oasis».

Эффект полного погружения в гипнотическую музыку Райха и живопись Герхарда Рихтера будет достигнут с помощью масштабных проекционных полотен, которые окружат слушателей на 360°. Автором визуальной партитуры перформанса выступит видеохудожник Илья Старилов — автор десятка резонансных театральных проектов, постоянного соавтора режиссеров Бориса Юхананова и Максима Диденко.

Два премьерных показа «Reich/Richter» пройдут 26 апреля в «ZOODEPO» — пространстве нового формата, объединяющего современные технологии и визуальные искусства.

On April 26, the premiere of an audiovisual performance to the music of American composer Steve Reich will take place. For the first time in Russia, the score “Reich/Richter” will be performed by the orchestra of the contemporary music festival SOUND UP, which includes the best performers of the capital who are interested in contemporary musical art.

To say that we live in the world created by Steve Reich would not be an exaggeration. Back in the 1960s, he and his like-minded people introduced the world to a new direction - minimalism, which determined the development of music for decades to come. Authors of all stripes, from John Adams to Brian Eno, openly talk about the influence of this style on their work. For forty years, Reich has been at the epicenter of contemporary art, and the premiere of “Reich/Richter” became one of the main musical events in America in 2019.

"Reich/Richter" is the meeting point between the living classic of American music and one of the most influential artists in the world, Gerhard Richter. The biography of the master of German painting is usually described exclusively in superlatives: over a half-century creative career, Richter tried different styles and techniques, from abstractionism to photorealism, achieved the status of one of the highest paid artists in the West and was awarded a personal pavilion at the Venice Biennale. Richter turned to Reich for the score for the film “Moving Picture (946-3)”, in which, together with director Corinna Beltz, he rethought his own work “Abstract painting” (1990): dividing the digital version of the painting into a different number of stripes, from two to 8190 , mirroring and moving them across the screen, Richter explores how from one painting an innumerable number of new images can emerge. Inspired by Richter's working method, the composer created "Reich/Richter" - one of the masterpieces of his late period.

Russian listeners will have a chance to hear live the opus “Reich/Richter” performed by the SOUND UP orchestra led by conductor Stanislav Malyshev. This is not the musician’s first collaboration with the SOUND UP festival: Malyshev conducted the Russian premiere of “Concerto for Turntables” by Gabriel Prokofiev, participated in the “Revolution in Sound” project at the New Tretyakov Gallery, introduced the audience to the music of the Icelandic composer Jóhan Jóhannsson and opened the festival of Middle Eastern music “Mawaheb” concert “SOUND UP: music of oasis”.

The effect of complete immersion in the hypnotic music of Reich and the painting of Gerhard Richter will be achieved with the help of large-scale projection canvases that will surround listeners at 360°. The author of the visual score for the performance will be video artist Ilya Starilov, the author of a dozen high-profile theatrical projects, a constant collaborator with directors Boris Yukhananov and Maxim Didenko.

Two premiere shows of “Reich/Richter” will be held on April 26 at ZOODEPO, a space of a new format that combines modern technology and visual arts.
