Michael Balke has made an international name for himself in both the opera and concert repertoire. He has conducted orchestras in Europe, Asia and the USA and has been a permanent guest conductor at the Theater St. Gallen since 2018/2019. Together with the Carinthian Symphony Orchestra and the choir and extra choir of the Stadttheater Klagenfurt, he will present not only Mozart's Requiem but also two works by Ravel and Busoni in the Konzerthaus. Angela Brower, who is also at home on many stages around the world and can currently be seen as Cendrillon in the Stadttheater Klagenfurt, can be heard as a soloist, among other things.

In his film Amadeus , Miloš Forman captured the legendary genesis of Mozart's Requiem in concise images. The reality was far more prosaic. The work was completed by his pupil Franz Xaver Süssmayr after the composer's death at the age of 36. However, the touching truthfulness of his musical language in dealing with death is independent of the myth surrounding the creation of the work. Ferruccio Busoni and Maurice Ravel also approached this topic. The Berceuse élégiaque , first performed by Gustav Mahler in 1911 in his last concert with the New York Philharmonic, according to the subtitle "the man's lullaby at his mother's grave", is dedicated to the memory of Busoni's mother Anna, who died in 1909. The suite on the tomb of François Couperin is not only a homage to the baroque composer, but also to six of Ravel's comrades who died in World War I, to whom a section is dedicated by name.
