In 1873, upset by the disappearance of Alessandro Manzoni, literary figure of Italian independence, Verdi decided to confront the Mass of the Dead. His  Requiem  was created on  May 22, 1874  for the first anniversary of the poet's death. Inhabited religious work, born under the pen of a composer whose life had long scandalized the church, the  Requiem , by its vocal and orchestral writing of an unprecedented scale, exceeds all measure in order to face the unspeakable of death. and mourning.

The show will be carried by part of the cast scheduled for Goethe's Scenes from Faust (to which is added the soprano Katherine Broderick), while preserving the meeting of two choirs, that of the Montpellier Opera and the Flanders Opera.

En 1873, bouleversé par la disparition d’Alessandro Manzoni, figure littéraire de l’indépendance italienne, Verdi décide de se confronter à la Messe des Morts. Son Requiem est créé le 22 mai 1874 pour le premier anniversaire de la disparition du poète. Œuvre religieuse habitée, née sous la plume d’un compositeur dont la vie avait longtemps scandalisé l’église, le Requiem, par son écriture vocale et orchestrale d’une ampleur inouïe, dépasse toute mesure afin d’affronter l’indicible de la mort et du deuil.

Le spectacle sera porté par une partie de la distribution prévue pour les Scènes du Faust de Goethe (à laquelle s’ajoute la soprano Katherine Broderick), tout en préservant la réunion de deux chœurs, celui de l’Opéra de Montpellier et de l’Opéra des Flandres.
