Ursprünglich für Richard Tauber komponiert und als eine wahre Rarität leider viel zu selten auf der Bühne zu erleben, ist diese mit reizvollen musikalischen Motiven und großen Szenen fein gespickte Geschichte doch eine der wertvollsten und originellsten Arbeiten aus der Feder Franz Lehárs. Die in einer Operette ungewöhnliche, wenn nicht gar einmalige dramatische Situation des 2. Aktes zeigt das Protagonisten-Paar völlig allein auf der Bühne, beglückt und bedroht von der elementaren Natur um sie, überwältigt von ihren Empfindungen füreinander – quasi ein „Tristan und Isolde“ mit Happy End. Die Herzen schlagen hier sehr viel intensiver als nur im Dreivierteltakt.

Originally composed for Richard Tauber and, as a true rarity, unfortunately all too rarely seen on stage, this story, which is finely peppered with attractive musical motifs and large scenes, is one of the most valuable and original works by Franz Lehár. The dramatic situation of the second act, which is unusual if not unique in an operetta, shows the protagonist couple completely alone on the stage, happy and threatened by the elemental nature around them, overwhelmed by their feelings for each other - a kind of "Tristan and Isolde" with a happy ending. The hearts beat here much more intensely than just in three-four time.
