In 2013, Thierry Escaich had already delivered Claude Claude to the Opéra de Lyon , to a libretto by Robert Badinter. For this new creation, the world-renowned composer and organist – his three Organ Concertos have toured the world – has hired the services of a very special librettist: the Franco-Afghan writer Atiq Rahimi, winner of the Goncourt in 2008 for Syngué Sabour . If after the prison universe of Claude, Thierry Escaich is tackling a completely different universe here – that of tales and legends – yet we find the composer's touch, this famous "liturgy of anguish" and a unique musical sensitivity, enhanced for the occasion with oriental colors. inspired by traditional Iranian music. With Shirine , which is also a reflection on representation, the composer indulges in a metaphorical writing that slides gently towards Persian magic. A dimension supported by the staging of Richard Brunel ( Le Cercle de craie by Alexander von Zemlinsky at the Opéra de Lyon in 2018), as well as a vocal cast made up of young and great talents (Julien Behr and Hélène Guilmette in the roles of Khosrow and Shirin).
