JS Bach: from six suites for cello & groovy, rocking compositions by Matthias Bartolomey - a musical dialogue that spans 300 years.

As a stimulating cellist, whether with his duo BartolomeyBittmann, as a soloist or in an orchestra, Matthias Bartolomey has become an integral part of the international music scene. He is now presenting his new solo program at the donau FESTWOCHEN: “Solo – two instruments, one language” is all about duality. The focus is on selected movements from the famous six suites for cello solo by JS Bach, as well as new, groove and rock-oriented compositions by Matthias Bartolomey. A musical dialogue emerges that spans 300 years.

Inspired by Bach's timeless motifs and rhythms, the cellist develops his own tonal language, which he weaves around the movements of the baroque suites both carefully and in sharp contrast. Bach's music remains unaffected and sounds in its purest form. Bartolomey's own compositions function as comments from our time, as play of colors and reflection.

The programmatic duality also manifests itself not least in the choice of instruments, since two cellos are used, coordinated with the works.

The Stadttheater Grein offers the congenial setting for this evening, as it offers a successful symbiosis of history and today's possibilities of a modern theater after its recent renovation

J. S. Bach: aus Sechs Suiten für Violoncello & groovig, rockige Eigenkompositionen von Matthias Bartolomey – ein musikalischer Dialog, dessen Bogen 300 Jahre umspannt.

Als impulsgebender Cellist, ob mit seinem Duo BartolomeyBittmann, solistisch oder im Orchester, ist Matthias Bartolomey in der internationalen Musikszene nicht mehr wegzudenken. Sein neues Solo-Programm stellt er nun bei den donauFESTWOCHEN vor: „Solo – zwei Instrumente, eine Sprache“ steht ganz im Zeichen der Dualität. Den Mittelpunkt bilden dabei ausgewählte Sätze aus den berühmten sechs Suiten für Violoncello Solo von J. S. Bach, sowie neue, groove- und rockbetonte Eigenkompositionen von Matthias Bartolomey. Es entsteht ein musikalischer Dialog, dessen Bogen 300 Jahre umspannt.

Inspiriert von Bachs zeitloser Motivik und Rhythmik entwickelt der Cellist seine eigene Tonsprache, die er sowohl behutsam als auch scharf kontrastierend um die Sätze der barocken Suiten webt. Die Musik Bachs bleibt davon unberührt und erklingt in ihrer Reinform. Bartolomeys Eigenkompositionen fungieren als Kommentare aus unserer Zeit, als Farbenspiel und Reflexion.

Die programmatische Dualität manifestiert sich nicht zuletzt auch in der Wahl der Instrumente, denn es kommen, abgestimmt auf die Werke, zwei Celli zum Einsatz.

Das Stadttheater Grein bietet für diesen Abend den kongenialen Rahmen, bietet es doch nach seiner jüngsten Renovierung eine gelungene Symbiose von Geschichte und heutigen Möglichkeiten eines modernen Theaterhauses.
