The home of the world's best orchestras, singers and musicians - that is the Grafenegg Festival. In the middle of the vineyards of Lower Austria and near Vienna, the historic castle and its beautiful gardens invite the audience to a spectacle of classical music inspired by nature. The concert takes place at the Wolkenturm, the impressive open-air stage with breathtaking acoustics. Every year the musical director and pianist Rudolf Buchbinder manages to attract the biggest stars of classical music to his festival.
This year, the summer night's gala is taking a musical journey through the romantic Wachau region with German soprano Angela Denoke, Mexican tenor Ramón Vargas and French pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet. And another perspective is provided by the Tonkunstler Orchestra of Lower Austria conducted by Juanjo Mena, one of Spain's most respected conductors who has achieved international renown and has worked with orchestras across Europe and the United States. Join us on a trip around the world across space and time - with classics of opera, musicals, operettas and film music, composed equally in Europe and America.
When night finally falls over Grafenegg Castle, the orchestra traditionally plays Edward Elgar's "Pomp and Circumstances", accompanied by a spectacular fireworks display. A great musical showdown in the heart of nature.
