Special times require special measures - and special pieces! Songs For A New Worldis a thoroughly unusual musical both in terms of content and form, in which less means more and big things are negotiated on a small scale. Composer and author Jason Robert Brown, three-time Tony Award winner, combines a total of 18 revue-like songs and scenes as well as 16 independent stories through the individual experience of the unique moment: the moment before the decision that changes everything. In intimate character studies, four singers embody the different characters with their respective conflicts. They are accompanied by an instrumental cast consisting of bass, drums, keyboard, percussion and piano, which accompanies the situations intoxicatingly. Brown's composition with its echoes of pop, gospel, jazz and funk alternately creates a good mood.
