Programma d’ambientazione britannica per Michele Spotti, direttore che alla soglia dei trent’anni si sta imponendo in Europa come punto di riferimento per il repertorio operistico dell’Ottocento. Insieme al tenore irlandese Robin Tritschler e Andrea Cesari (che sostituisce all’ultimo momento Martin Owen impossibilitato a esibirsi per un problema di salute) presenta la Serenata op.31 di Benjamin Britten, composizione del 1943 che medita sulla natura e sulla notte inanellando versi inglesi di diverse epoche. Di Britten, inoltre, vengono proposte Lachrymae, solista Stefano Zanobini, prima viola dell’ORT: omaggio a un grande compositore d’epoca elisabettiana, John Dowland. Negli altri due pezzi diretti da Spotti appare invece la Gran Bretagna osservata da musicisti del continente. Nelle Ebridi Mendelssohn raffigura il suo stupore di fronte alla Grotta di Fingal (sull’Isola di Staffa, nell’arcipelago scozzese delle Ebridi, appunto); La pendola, invece, è una delle dodici sinfonie che Haydn compose, al colmo della fama, in occasione dei suoi due viaggi a Londra.

Program with a British setting for Michele Spotti, a director who, on the threshold of thirty years of age, is establishing himself in Europe as a point of reference for the 19th century operatic repertoire. Together with the Irish tenor Robin Tritschler and Andrea Cesari (who replaces Martin Owen at the last moment unable to perform due to health problems) he presents the Serenata op.31 by Benjamin Britten, a 1943 composition that meditates on nature and the night by looping English verses of different eras. Britten also offers Lachrymae , soloist Stefano Zanobini, principal violist of the ORT: a tribute to a great composer of the Elizabethan era, John Dowland. In the other two pieces directed by Spotti, Great Britain appears instead observed by musicians from the continent.
