Richard Strauss liet zich voor zijn Salometanz inspireren door Oscar Wildes toneelstuk waarin Salome het hoofd eist van Johannes De Doper, de enige man die aan haar verleiding kon weerstaan. Niet verrassend zorgden het erotisch geladen thema, de intensiteit en de harmonische complexiteit voor opschudding. Hetzelfde geldt voor Also sprach Zarathustra, naar het gelijknamige filosofische boek van Nietzsche: ook dat werk – en in zijn zog het symfonisch gedicht van Strauss – is omgeven door controverse. Niettemin maakte Strauss een absoluut meesterwerk waarin hij uitdrukking geeft aan zijn visie op het enige, aardse leven. Alban Berg schreef zijn Vioolconcerto ‘Andenken eines Engels’ voor de veel te jong gestorven Manon Gropius, de dochter van Alma Mahler en Walter Gropius. Of hoe liefde en dood soms dichter bij elkaar staan dan je denkt ... Als geen ander vertaalde Berg de tragiek van het gebeuren in een intens concerto, dat de Nederlandse violiste Simone Lamsma met verve voor ons brengt.

Richard Strauss drew inspiration for his Salome Dance from Oscar Wilde's play, where Salome demands the head of John the Baptist, the only man who resisted her seduction. The erotically charged theme, intensity, and harmonic complexity naturally stirred controversy. The same holds true for Also sprach Zarathustra, based on Nietzsche's philosophical work, a piece surrounded by controversy along with Strauss's symphonic poem. Nevertheless, Strauss crafted an absolute masterpiece expressing his vision of earthly life. Alban Berg's Violin Concerto ‘To the Memory of an Angel' was dedicated to the tragically young Manon Gropius, daughter of Alma Mahler and Walter Gropius, showcasing how love and death can be closer than one might think. Berg poignantly translates the tragedy into an intense concerto, skillfully performed by Dutch violinist Simone Lamsma.

Richard Strauss s'est inspiré de la pièce de théâtre d'Oscar Wilde pour son Danse de Salomé, dans laquelle Salomé exige la tête de Jean-Baptiste, le seul homme à avoir résisté à sa séduction. Il n'est pas surprenant que ce thème chargé d'érotisme, son intensité et sa complexité harmonique aient provoqué des remous. Il en va de même pour Also sprach Zarathustra, d'après le livre philosophique éponyme de Nietzsche : ce travail - et dans son sillage le poème symphonique de Strauss - est également entouré de controverse. Néanmoins, Strauss a créé un chef-d'œuvre absolu dans lequel il exprime sa vision de la seule vie terrestre. Alban Berg a écrit son Concerto pour violon "En mémoire d'un ange" pour Manon Gropius, décédée beaucoup trop jeune, la fille d'Alma Mahler et de Walter Gropius. Ou comment l'amour et la mort sont parfois plus proches qu'on ne le pense... Comme personne d'autre, Berg a traduit la tragédie de l'événement dans un concerto intense, que la violoniste néerlandaise Simone Lamsma interprète avec brio pour nous.
