Johann Sebastian Bach zapisał się w historii nie tylko jako świetny organista i twórca dzieł mających do dziś grono swych oddanych wielbicieli. Artysta latami zgłębiał tajniki sztuki kompozytorskiej. W efekcie nie udało mu się ukończyć ostatniej fugi, w której nazwy pierwszych czterech dźwięków wiodącej melodii tworzą jego własne nazwisko (B-A-C-H). Ten muzyczny podpis mistrza stał się później inspiracją dla wielu kompozytorów.

Praktyka wykonawcza XVII i XVIII stulecia, a także to, że Bach nie zostawił żadnej sugestii, na jakie instrumenty dzieło zostało skomponowane, sprawiają, że Die Kunst der Fuge jest dzisiaj grane w różnorodnych opracowaniach. W ramach 52. Międzynarodowego Festiwalu Wratislavia Cantans tę niezwykłą kompozycję Bacha zaprezentuje Accademia Bizantina. Johann Sebastian Bach went down in history not only as a great organist and creator of works that have a group of devoted admirers to this day. The artist has been exploring the secrets of the art of composition for years. The perfectionism characteristic of Bach resulted in the creation of the extraordinary collection Die Kunst der Fuge (The Art of the Fugue ), which is the culmination of the artist's research in the field of counterpoint - the most difficult compositional technique at that time. Although it is said that Bach started working on Die Kunst der Fugea year before his death, we now know the manuscript of an earlier version of this work, written seven years earlier. However, the composer made changes to the collection many times. As a result, he failed to complete the final fugue, in which the names of the first four notes of the leading melody form his own surname (BACH). This musical signature of the master later became an inspiration for many composers.

The performance practice of the 17th and 18th centuries, as well as the fact that Bach left no suggestion for what instruments the work was composed for, make Die Kunst der Fuge today played in various settings. As part of the 52nd Wratislavia Cantans International Festival, this extraordinary composition by Bach will be presented by Accademia Bizantina. This Italian early music group, existing for thirty-four years, was created with the idea of ​​"performing music like a great quartet", which results in its coherent and uniform sound. The musicians refer to the best traditions of Italian chamber music. Thanks to cooperation with outstanding musicologists, their performances are based on in-depth historical knowledge. An arrangement of Bach's Die Kunst der Fugeis one of the latest projects of the ensemble led by the esteemed Italian conductor Ottavio Dantone.
