Zapraszamy na wersję koncertową operetki Franza Lehára Kraina uśmiechu. Tytuł ten rozpoczął działalność teatru muzycznego w powojennym Szczecinie i był pierwszą premierą wystawioną na deskach ówczesnej operetki szczecińskiej.

W 1956 r. grupa entuzjastów z Jackiem Nieżychowskim na czele powołała do życia Towarzystwo Miłośników Teatru Muzycznego. W październiku tego roku powstał pierwszy w polskim Szczecinie zawodowy teatr muzyczny pod nazwą Operetka Szczecińska Towarzystwa Miłośników Teatru Muzycznego. 25 stycznia 1957 r. w Domu Kultury Zjednoczenia Budownictwa Miejskiego przy ul. Bohaterów Warszawy wystawiono pierwszą premierę - operetkę Kraina uśmiechu Franza Lehára z gościnnym udziałem solistów Operetki Gliwickiej oraz muzyków filharmonii szczecińskiej.
 

Kraina uśmiechu jest operetką wyjątkową. Nie brakuje jej komizmu i spojrzenia na świat z życzliwym przymrużeniem oka, ale wątek główny libretta pozostaje poważny i realistyczny, a do tego - jak najbardziej na czasie. Pointa historii brzmi następująco: miłość Europejki i chińskiego księcia, mimo swojej siły i szczerości, nie może się spełnić ze względu na kulturowe różnice. Miłość przegrywa z konfliktem wartości, którymi w życiu kierują się zakochani Liza i Su Czong. Co smutniejsze, łzy z serca płynące głównego bohatera przysłonięte zostają maską uśmiechu, bez względu na wszystko. Mamy więc do czynienia z melodramatem, w którym nie ma radosnego zakończenia. Zakochani protagoniści nie spędzą razem w szczęściu reszty swoich dni. Ale też nie ma z tego powodu  tragedii, bo zakończenie operetki pozostawia nas z nadzieją, że "jeszcze będzie przepięknie". Wybór między lojalnością tradycji, racją stanu a racją serca okazuje się dla Su Czonga trudny. Gdyby jednak Liza i Su Czong zdecydowali się desperacko walczyć o uczucie, ich dramat byłby dużo większy. 
Łatwiej opowiedzieć o niespełnionym uczuciu, skupiając się na powadze tematu, wspieranym przez szlachetność muzyki Lehára. Łatwiej pójść w stylistykę operową, grać na serio, ścinając wątki komiczne i groteskowe. Ale ciekawiej jest przypiąć uśmiech smutnej bajce i koncentrując się na wątkach zabawnych, wydobyć z rzewnych nut maksimum komizmu. W końcu o każdej rzeczy można opowiedzieć na wesoło lub na smutno. Bądźmy roześmiani, nawet jeśli rzeczywistość nas nie rozpieszcza. Patrzmy na jasne strony życia, a Krainę Uśmiechu wyczarujemy sobie sami.

We invite you to the concert version of Franz Lehár's operetta  The Land of Smile . This title started the activity of the musical theater in post-war Szczecin and was the first premiere staged on the stage of the then Szczecin operetta.

In 1956, a group of enthusiasts led by Jacek Nieżychowski established the Music Theater Lovers Society. In October this year, the first professional music theater in Szczecin, called the Szczecin Operetta of the Music Theater Lovers Society, was established. On January 25, 1957 at the Cultural Center of the Municipal Construction Union at ul. Heroes of Warsaw, the first premiere was staged - the operetta The Land of a Smile by Franz Lehár, featuring soloists from the Gliwice Operetta and musicians from the Szczecin Philharmonic.
 

The land of smilesis an exceptional operetta. There is no shortage of comedy and a light-hearted look at the world, but the libretto's main theme remains serious and realistic, and, at the same time, very up-to-date. The point of the story is as follows: the love of a European woman and a Chinese prince, despite its strength and sincerity, cannot come true due to cultural differences. Love loses with the conflict of values ​​guided in life by Liza and Su Chong in love. What's sadder, the tears flowing from the main character's heart become masked with a smile, no matter what. So we are dealing with a melodrama with no joyful ending. The protagonists in love will not spend the rest of their days happily together. But there is no tragedy because of this, because the ending of the operetta leaves us with the hope that "it will still be beautiful". Choosing between loyalty to tradition, raison d'état, or a right of heart turns out to be difficult for Su Chong. However, if Liza and Su Chong decided desperately to fight for affection, their drama would be much bigger. 
It is easier to talk about an unfulfilled feeling by focusing on the seriousness of the subject, supported by the nobility of Lehár's music. It's easier to go into opera style, play seriously, cutting comic and grotesque threads. But it is more interesting to pin the smile of a sad fairy tale and focus on funny threads to bring out the maximum comedy from the bitter notes. After all, anything can be told happily or sadly. Let's be laughing, even if reality doesn't spoil us. Let's look at the bright sides of life, and we will conjure the Land of Smiles for ourselves.
