After the dazzling success of the opera Bohème ( La Bohème ), Giacomo Puccini reaches for the drama for the first time, the title role of which was tailor-made for the theater star of his time, Sarah Bernhardt.
With his music, the composer plays a game of love, passion and intrigue, which is accompanied from the very beginning by the shadow of an inevitably approaching tragedy.
Scenes too controversial for the taste of the late 19th century outraged opera critics, but despite their negative reflections, Tosca became and remains one of the most famous and performed operas ever.

Po oslnivém úspěchu opery Bohéma (La Bohème) sahá Giacomo Puccini poprvé po činoherní předloze, jejíž titulní role byla šita na míru divadelní hvězdě své doby Sarah Bernhardt.
Skladatel svou hudbou rozehrává hru lásky, vášní a intrik, jež je od samého počátku provázena stínem neodvratně se blížící tragédie.
Výjevy příliš kontroverzní pro vkus konce 19. století pobouřily operní kritiky, avšak navzdory jejich negativním reflexím se Tosca stala a nadále zůstává jednou z nejslavnějších a nejhranějších oper vůbec.
