The concert program of the Wrocław Baroque Orchestra conducted by Andrzej Kosendiak, crowning the 58th edition of the festival, will include works by two artists of the Baroque era. They included two cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach, a widely known and respected artist. However, the music of Jean-Féry Rebel may be a discovery for many listeners. The works of both composers share the theme of the power of nature.

How to represent chaos through music? Jean-Féry Rebel in the ballet Les  Élémens decided on a radical solution for its time, which still makes a huge impression on unsuspecting listeners today. The composer uses all the notes of the D minor harmonic scale at once, which creates a dense and grossly dissonant sound. This procedure later became a great "discovery" of the 20th-century avant-garde and is now known as a cluster. The sharp dissonance played forte by the entire band immediately catches the listeners' attention. A moment later, Rebel introduces pictorial motifs symbolizing individual elements. The falling and rising melody of the flutes symbolizes water; the piercing trills of the piccolo flute are air, the sharp sounds of the strings in small rhythmic values ​​are fire, and the long, stable and low sounds of double basses are a symbol of the earth. It is radical music and, despite the fact that it was first heard in 1738, it is still surprisingly fresh. Two other parts from this ballet will also be heard. Loure , a slow French dance from Normandy, is titled Earth and Water , while the energetic Chaconne is titled Fire.  

The concert program also included two works by Bach. Zerreißet, zersprenget, zertrümmert die Gruft ( Break it up, break it down, break the cave ) is a secular cantata with text by Picandra. The composition was commissioned in 1725 by students of the University of Leipzig, who performed it to celebrate the name day of one of their professors - August Friedrich Müller. The piece was played under the title Der zufrieden gestellte Aeolus ( The Satisfied Aeolus ). Pallas Athena, together with Zephyr (god of the gentle west wind) and Pomona (goddess of harvest), try to appease the lord of the winds, Aeolus, so that he will not interfere with the ceremony in honor of the professor. In turn , Schleicht, spielende Wellen ( Slowly swim the waves! ) is another secular cantata by the Leipzig cantor, dominated by aquatic motifs. It was created in 1736 on the birthday of the Polish king (and elector of Saxony) Augustus III, and he is praised there. Each of the four solo voices symbolizes a different river: the bass is the Vistula, the tenor is the Elbe, the alto is the Danube, and the soprano is the Pleissa.

Program koncertu Wrocławskiej Orkiestry Barokowej pod dyrekcją Andrzeja Kosendiaka wieńczący 58. edycję festiwalu wypełnią dzieła dwóch twórców epoki baroku. Znalazły się wśród nich dwie kantaty Johanna Sebastiana Bacha, artysty powszechnie znanego i cenionego. Natomiast muzyka Jeana-Féry'ego Rebela dla wielu słuchaczy stanowić może odkrycie. Dzieła obu kompozytorów łączy tematyka potęgi siły natury.

Jak przedstawić chaos za pomocą muzyki? Jean-Féry Rebel w balecie Les  Élémens  zdecydował się na zabieg jak na tamte czasy radykalny, a i dziś jeszcze robiący ogromne wrażenie na niczego się nie spodziewających słuchaczach. Otóż kompozytor wykorzystuje wszystkie dźwięki skali d-moll harmonicznej na raz, co daje współbrzmienie gęste i rażąco dysonujące. Zabieg ten stał się potem wielkim „odkryciem” XX-wiecznej awangardy i obecnie znany jest jako klaster. Ostry dysonans grany forte przez cały zespół natychmiast przykuwa uwagę słuchaczy. Chwilę później Rebel wprowadza obrazowe motywy symbolizujące poszczególne żywioły. Raz opadająca, raz wznosząca się melodia fletów symbolizuje wodę; przenikliwe tryle fletu piccolo to powietrze, ostre dźwięki smyczków w drobnych wartościach rytmicznych to ogień, a długo trzymane, stabilne i niskie dźwięki kontrabasów – to symbol ziemi. Jest to muzyka radykalna i pomimo tego, że po raz pierwszy zabrzmiała w 1738 roku, nadal zaskakująco świeża. Zabrzmią także dwa inne ogniwa z tego baletu. Loure, czyli powolny francuski taniec z Normandii, nosi tytuł Ziemia i woda, natomiast pełna energii Chaconne zatytułowana została Ogień.

W programie koncertu znalazły się również dwa dzieła Bacha. Zerreißet, zersprenget, zertrümmert die Gruft (Rozsadźcie, rozburzcie, rozkruszcie grotę) to świecka kantata z tekstem Picandra. Kompozycja została zamówiona w 1725 roku przez studentów lipskiego uniwersytetu, którzy jej wykonaniem uświetnili imieniny jednego z profesorów – Augusta Friedricha Müllera. Utwór odegrano pod tytułem Der zufrieden gestellte Aeolus (Zadowolony Eol). Pallas Atena wraz z Zefirem (bogiem łagodnego wiatru zachodniego) i Pomoną (boginią urodzaju) starają się udobruchać władcę wiatrów Eola, aby nie przeszkadzał w uroczystości ku czci profesora. Z kolei Schleicht, spielende Wellen (Wolno płyńcie fale!) to kolejna kantata świecka lipskiego kantora, w której dominują motywy akwatyczne. Powstała w 1736 roku na urodziny polskiego króla (i elektora Saksonii) Augusta III i to on jest tam wychwalany. Każdy z czterech głosów solowych symbolizuje inną rzekę: bas to Wisła, tenor – Łaba, alt – Dunaj, a sopran – Pleissa.
