The Theater Basel is the largest three-section theater in Switzerland. In the trinational metropolitan region, it offers a program of opera , drama and ballet that is as broad as it is demanding . Since the 22/23 season, there has also been the Theater Public, including the Foyer Public , the public space for everyone in the middle of the theatre.

Theater Basel is an institution organized under private law. It is supported by the Theatergenossenschaft Basel, which natural and legal persons can join. The managing body of the theater cooperative is the Board of Directors, which consists of nine members. The direct management of Theater Basel is the responsibility of the theater management chaired by the artistic director.
