Henry Purcell's baroque music and Helmut Oehring's compositions revolve around one another in ›AscheMOND‹ like planets bound together by invisible gravity. The central motif of the solar eclipse also stands for the overwhelming dimensions in which this orbiting and colliding will take place. ›AscheMOND‹ sings about the forces that make the earth turn and move hearts. Tells stories in music, paints pictures of basic conflicts and loyalties. All people have an existential connection with everyone else. The spiritual-emotional attitudes that we humans produce endure through time and death.

Helmut Oehring's opera was premiered in 2013 at the Berlin State Opera. Some sections of the score were not performed, which will now be heard for the first time in Wuppertal and will make the premiere in January 2017 a partial premiere. In addition, the composer made further changes to the cast and score for the Wuppertal production.

Born in East Berlin in 1961 to deaf parents, Helmut Oehring is now considered one of the outstanding composers of his generation. He has received many awards - in 2015 he received the German Music Authors' Prize in the music theater category.

Wie durch unsichtbare Gravitation aneinander gefesselte Planeten umkreisen sich in ›AscheMOND‹ die Barockmusik Henry Purcells und die Kompositionen Helmut Oehrings. Das zentrale Motiv der Sonnenfinsternis steht dabei auch für die überwältigenden Dimensionen, in denen sich dieses Umkreisen und Kollidieren vollziehen wird. ›AscheMOND‹ singt von jenen Kräften, welche die Erde zum Drehen bringen und die Herzen bewegen. Erzählt Geschichten in Musik, malt Bilder von Grundkonflikten und Loyalitäten. Alle Menschen stehen mit allen anderen in existenzieller Verbindung. Die geistig emotionalen Haltungen, die wir Menschen hervorbringen, überdauern die Zeit und den Tod.

Helmut Oehrings Oper wurde 2013 an der Berliner Staatsoper uraufgeführt. Dabei kamen einige Abschnitte der Partitur nicht zur Aufführung, die nun in Wuppertal erstmals erklingen und die Premiere im Januar 2017 zu einer Teiluraufführung machen. Darüber hinaus nahm der Komponist für die Wuppertaler Produktion weitere Änderungen an Besetzung und Partitur vor.

1961 in Ost-Berlin als Sohn gehörloser Eltern geboren, gilt Helmut Oehring heute als herausragender Komponist seiner Generation. Er wurde vielfach ausgezeichnet – 2015 erhielt er den Deutschen Musikautorenpreis in der Kategorie Musiktheater.
