Miluji stromy, které rostou tisíce let… Plyne čas kolem nás nebo my plyneme v čase? Jsou mezi námi lidé, kteří si dokážou vytvořit svůj vnitřní čas trvající věky? Orlando nebo Orlanda, co záleží na pojmenování identity, na tom co soudí ostatní a mají potřebu označit nálepkami, když jediná důležitá věc je svoboda v našem srdci a duši. Jen tak dokážeme kráčet časem a vidět…

Pro soubor Janáčkovy opery NdB vzniká na objednávku další nové operní dílo, Jeho autorkou je vynikající slovenská skladatelka Lubica Čekovská, která není ve světě opery žádným nováčkem a její poslední operu Impresario premiéroval Bregenz festival. Inspirací k libretu se stal fascinující román anglické spisovatelky Virginie Woolf Orlando – literární putování napříč stoletími, od doby vlády královny Alžběty I. po rok 1928, s mladým šlechticem a básníkem Orlandem.

Opera nás zavádí do soudní síně, kde se rozhoduje o tom, zda je Orlando žena či muž. Skrze jednotlivá svědectví nahlížíme do zlomových momentů Orlandova života. Ztráta první velké lásky, hledání samoty i nové identity, tajemný spánek odhalující tenkou hranici mezi životem a smrtí. Orlando miluje, tvoří a mění se a opera zde vzdává hold osvobozující síle představivosti a umění i schopnosti vnímat přítomný okamžik.

Orlando oder Orlanda, was zählt schon die Benennung der Identität, was zählt schon das Urteil der anderen und ihr Bedürfnis, uns in Schubladen zu stecken, wenn das einzig Wichtige die Freiheit in unserem Herzen und unserer Seele ist. Denn nur so sind wir in der Lage, durch die Zeit zu schreiten und zu sehen …

 

Für das Ensemble der Janáček-Oper des Nationaltheaters Brno entsteht gerade ein neues Auftragswerk. Seine Autorin ist die herausragende slowakische Komponistin Ľubica Čekovská, die in der Opernwelt kein Neuling ist und deren letzte Oper Impresario Dotcom ihre Premiere bei den Bregenzer Festspielen feiern konnte. Die Inspiration für das Libretto des neuen Werks lieferte der faszinierende Roman Orlando der britischen Schriftstellerin Virginia Woolf – eine literarische Wanderung mit dem jungen Aristokraten und Poeten Orlando quer durch die Jahrhunderte, von der Ära Königin Elisabeths I. bis ins Jahr 1928. Die Oper führt uns in einen Gerichtssaal, wo darüber befunden wird, ob Orlando ein Mann oder eine Frau sei. Durch die einzelnen Zeugenaussagen gewinnen wir Einblick in die Wendepunkte im Leben Orlandos: der Verlust der ersten großen Liebe, die Suche nach dem Alleinsein und nach einer neuen Identität, ein geheimnisvoller Schlaf, der den schmalen Grat zwischen Leben und Tod enthüllt. Orlando liebt, schafft und wandelt sich, und die Oper feiert hier die befreiende Kraft der Kunst und Kreativität, aber auch der Fähigkeit, den Augenblick wahrzunehmen.

I love trees that have been growing for thousands of years… Does time pass around us or do we pass in time? Are there people among us who can create their own inner time that lasts for ages? Orlando or Orlanda, what does it matter to name an identity, what others judge and feel the need to label when the only thing that matters is the freedom in our heart and soul. That’s the only way we can walk through time and see…

 
Another new opera work is being commissioned for the Janáček Opera of the National Theatre Brno. The author is the excellent Slovak composer Lubica Čekovská, who is no newcomer to the world of opera and whose last opera Impresario was premiered at the Bregenz Festival. The libretto was inspired by the fascinating novel Orlando by English writer Virginia Woolf – a literary journey across the centuries, from the reign of Queen Elizabeth I to 1928, with the young nobleman and poet Orlando. The opera takes us into the courtroom where the decision is being made as to whether Orlando is a man or a woman. Through individual testimonies, we get a glimpse into the turning points of Orlando’s life. The loss of the first great love, the search for solitude and a new identity, a mysterious sleep revealing the thin line between life and death. Orlando loves, creates and changes, and here the opera pays homage to the liberating power of imagination and art, and the ability to perceive the present moment.
