Returning to the Opéra de Lausanne after the highly festive Domino noir,
visual artist Valérie Lesort has created an opera for young audiences, featuring puppets and based on Orpheus and Eurydice by Christoph Willibald Gluck. This beautiful story of love and death is part of our imaginary heritage. Greek mythology recounts the quest of the poet and musician Orpheus, who bravely confronts the sinister land of Hades to use the magic of his lyre to convince the infernal gods to let his beloved Eurydice return to the world of the living. The challenge posed to him by the dark judges is well-known: he must not turn around to look at her until he has left their kingdom. Will the musician in love, who knows how to soften stones and ferocious beasts, succeed in bringing his beloved back to life?

This provocatively original adaptation is both sung and spoken. The underworld portrayed by Marine Thoreau La Salle, who is also on musical preparation and piano, is enlivened with magical episodes and amusing adventures, interspersed with the most beautiful arias from Gluck’s opera designed to introduce children to the art of opera. Inside a little castle, after an introduction by Zeus himself, and on the advice of Love in person, the singers appear in the form of hybrid puppets. Transformed into supernatural creatures 80 centimetres high, they are accompanied by zany animals on a journey full of poetry and magic, much to the delight of children and their parents.

De retour à l’Opéra de Lausanne après le très festif Domino noir,
la plasticienne Valérie Lesort imagine un spectacle lyrique pour le jeune public, avec marionnettes, d’après Orphée et Eurydice de Christoph Willibald Gluck. Cette belle histoire d’amour et de mort fait partie de notre patrimoine imaginaire. La mythologie grecque nous a conté cette quête du poète et musicien Orphée affrontant courageusement le sinistre pays d’Hadès pour convaincre, grâce à la magie de sa lyre, les dieux infernaux de laisser sa chère Eurydice rejoindre le monde des vivants. On connaît le défi que lui posent les sombres juges : ne pas se retourner pour la regarder avant d’avoir quitté leur royaume. Le musicien amoureux qui sait attendrir les pierres et les bêtes féroces réussira-t-il à ramener à la vie sa bien-aimée ?

Cette adaptation piquante d’originalité alterne chants et dialogues. Le chemin des Enfers que nous offre Marine Thoreau La Salle, également à la préparation musicale et au piano, s’égaie d’épisodes magiques et de drôles de péripéties, encadrant les plus beaux airs de l’opéra de Gluck, pour initier les enfants à l’art lyrique. À l’intérieur d’un castelet, après une introduction par Zeus lui-même, et sur les conseils de l’Amour en personne, les chanteuses apparaissent sous la forme de marionnettes hybrides. Les voici transformées en créatures surnaturelles de 80 centimètres de haut, accompagnées d’un bestiaire loufoque dans ce voyage plein de poésie et de magie, pour le plus grand plaisir des enfants et leurs parents.
