Sibelius Violinkonsert är av de mest spelade av alla violinkonserter tillkomna under 1900-talet. Sibelius, själv violinist, skrev möjligen den konsert han själv hade velat spela – om än på en spelteknisk nivå som var skyhögt över hans egen, som ett farväl till ungdomsdrömmarna om en karriär som violinvirtuos. Med den enastående nederländska violinisten Janine Jansen kan vi vänta oss ett trollbindande, intensivt och känslofyllt äventyr.

Före avfärden till den ”nya världen”, Amerika, komponerade Antonín Dvorák sin livsbejakande åttonde symfoni. Det är – liksom för övrigt hos Sibelius – en naturnära musik full av brusande energi. Här finns en rikedom av böhmiska folkmelodier och dansanta partier. Kanske anar man även skogens fågelsång, och en nostalgisk hemlängtan?

Det är med stor glädje vi återigen hälsar den österrikiske dirigenten Manfred Honeck välkommen till Kungliga Filharmonikerna. Han har på senare år byggt en nära relation med orkestern, och dirigerade senast vid Nobel Prize Concert 2022. Honeck är chefdirigent för Pittsburghs symfoniker, och för många i Sverige välkänd efter åren som chefdirigent för  Sveriges Radios Symfoniorkester.

Sibelius's Violin Concerto is one of the most played of all the violin concertos composed during the 20th century. Sibelius, himself a violinist, may have written the concerto he himself had wanted to play - albeit at a technical level that was far above his own, as a farewell to youthful dreams of a career as a violin virtuoso. With the outstanding Dutch violinist Janine Jansen, we can expect a spellbinding, intense and emotional adventure.

Before leaving for the "new world", America, Antonín Dvorák composed his life-affirming Eighth Symphony. It is – as is the case with Sibelius – a close-to-nature music full of roaring energy. Here is a wealth of Bohemian folk melodies and dance parts. Perhaps you also sense the birdsong of the forest, and a nostalgic homesickness?

It is with great pleasure that we once again welcome the Austrian conductor Manfred Honeck to the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. In recent years, he has built a close relationship with the orchestra, and most recently conducted at the Nobel Prize Concert 2022. Honeck is the chief conductor of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and to many in Sweden well known after his years as chief conductor of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra.
