Die Oboe. Zwar gestand Strauss ihr in zahlreichen seiner Opern und Tondichtungen charakteristische Soli zu, eine eigenständige Komposition für das Holzblasinstrument jedoch verfasste er erst im Alter von 80 Jahren. Es entstand eines der meistgespielten Oboenkonzerte des 20. Jahrhunderts, ein Werk voller Anmut und Witz, dem jedoch eines fehlt: die Introduktion. An deren Stelle tritt nun Edward Elgars langsames, knapp vierminütiges "Soliloquy" ("Selbstgespräch") - ursprünglich Teil einer Suite für Oboe und Orchester, die Elgar jedoch nie vollendete. Einblick ins Familienleben hingegen gibt Strauss' "Sinfonia domestica", gewidmet seiner Frau und dem gemeinsamen Sohn. In entspannt-heiterer Atmosphäre lädt der Komponist hier ein ins Private und schildert allzu bekannte häusliche Situationen, bei denen schließlich auch ein kleiner Familienzwist nicht fehlen darf ...

The oboe. Although Strauss gave her characteristic solos in many of his operas and tone poems, he wrote an independent composition for the woodwind instrument only at the age of 80. The result is one of the most-performed oboe concertos of the 20th century, a work full of grace and wit that lacks one thing: the introduction. In its place is Edward Elgar's slow, almost four-minute "Soliloquy" ("Conversation with Oneself") - originally part of a suite for oboe and orchestra, which Elgar never completed. Strauss' "Sinfonia domestica", dedicated to his wife and their son, gives an insight into family life. In a relaxed and cheerful atmosphere, the composer invites you into private life and describes all-too-familiar domestic situations,
