Dieser Doppelabend mit dem Tanzensemble, dem Tiroler Symphonieorchester Innsbruck, Gesangssolist:innen sowie dem Opernchor und dem Extrachor trägt die Handschrift eines der renommiertesten Choreografen unserer Zeit: Edward Clug kreierte unter anderem Stücke für das Stuttgarter Ballett, das Zürcher Ballett, das Wiener Staatsballett und das Nederlands Dans Theater.

Kurze Zeit nach der Beendigung von Stabat Mater verstarb Giovanni Battista Pergolesi mit nur 26 Jahren. Die Tragik um seinen allzu frühen Tod verschaffte seinem gesamten Werk beachtliche Aufmerksamkeit. Pergolesis Interpretation des Stabat Mater gilt bis heute als Meisterwerk der geistlichen Musik. In seiner Choreografie stellt Edward Clug vor dem Hintergrund des Leidens der Heiligen Maria während Jesus’ Kreuzigung einen Bezug zu tradierten biblischen Bildern her. Gleichzeitig reflektiert er, nicht ohne Ironie, unser heutiges Verständnis der Beziehung zwischen Mutter und Sohn.

Igor Strawinsky begann die Arbeit an Les Noces im Jahr 1914. Für das Libretto, das er selbst verfasste, dienten ihm populäre russische Hochzeitsgedichte. Edward Clug erzählt in seiner Version, die sich eng an Strawinskys Vorlage orientiert, von einer arrangierten Hochzeit für zwei junge Menschen auf dem russischen Land in einem bäuerlichen Umfeld. Vor den Augen der aufgeregten Dorfgemeinschaft nähern sie sich einander an, neugierig und gleichzeitig ängstlich in Erwartung der bevorstehenden Hochzeitsnacht. Dazu erschwert dem verunsicherten Bräutigam ein als „falsche“ Braut verkleideter Mann mit seinem hinterlistigen Verwirrspiel das Leben, während die Mutter der Braut und der Vater des Bräutigams das Ihre dazu beitragen, das Paar sanft aber bestimmt in den «Ernst des Lebens» und die Welt der Erwachsenen zu bugsieren. Clug setzt Strawinskys folkloristisches Libretto mit viel Tempo, Dynamik und Humor um.

This double evening with the dance ensemble, the Tyrolean Symphony Orchestra Innsbruck, vocal soloists as well as the opera choir and the extra choir bears the signature of one of the most renowned choreographers of our time: Edward Clug created pieces for, among others, the Stuttgart Ballet, the Zurich Ballet, the Vienna State Ballet and the Nederlands Dans Theater.

Shortly after the end of Stabat Mater , Giovanni Battista Pergolesi died at the age of only 26. The tragedy surrounding his untimely death brought considerable attention to his entire work. Pergolesi's interpretation of the Stabat Mater is still considered a masterpiece of sacred music. In his choreography, Edward Clug creates a reference to traditional biblical images against the backdrop of the suffering of Saint Mary during Jesus' crucifixion. At the same time, it reflects, not without irony, our current understanding of the relationship between mother and son.

Igor Stravinsky began work on Les Noces in 1914. He used popular Russian wedding poems for the libretto, which he wrote himself. In his version, which is closely based on Stravinsky's original, Edward Clug tells of an arranged marriage for two young people in the Russian countryside in a farming environment. Before the eyes of the excited village community, they approach each other, curious and at the same time anxious in anticipation of the upcoming wedding night. In addition, a man disguised as a “false” bride makes life more difficult for the insecure groom with his devious confusion, while the mother of the bride and the father of the groom do their part to gently but firmly guide the couple into the “seriousness of life” and the world to maneuver the adults. Clug implements Stravinsky's folkloric libretto with a lot of speed, dynamism and humor.
