On January 25, on Tatiana's day, a special version of G.N. Karetnikov's opera by P.I. Tchaikovsky "Eugene Onegin" "Tatiana".

20 years ago Georgy Nikolaevich Karetnikov made the author's version of the score for the opera "Eugene Onegin" by P. I. Tchaikovsky. The premiere of "Tatiana" took place with great success on the 200th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Pushkin, June 6, 1999, in the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory. The performance was attended by soprano Tatyana Monogarova, whose talent inspired the author to this work, soloists of the Moscow opera theaters, the Young Russia orchestra and the A.A. Yurlova.

Calling his version after the name of the main character, Georgy Nikolaevich relied on the opinion of F.M.Dostoevsky regarding the not very successful Pushkin title of the novel, as well as on his own early impressions of Tchaikovsky's opera.

"Tatiana" lasts 90 minutes. It has only two parts instead of three long theatrical acts with seven scenes and two intermissions.

According to critics and musicologists, in Karetnikov's version, notes in the score and stage cuts did not spoil either the music or the drama, and the female image, unique in Russian literature and music, only grew larger.

Today Karetnikov will present an updated version of the opera - with recordings of fragments from Pushkin's novel performed by Innokenty Smoktunovsky.

This version with a through reading of Pushkin's poetry and with a different - major - ending will help listeners to rediscover the "encyclopedia of Russian life" in music. The composition ends with a happy ending. No suffering, empty sympathy for the "pitiful lot" of a retired lover. Only a pure and high image of the heroine that arouses admiration.
