Any man who asks for the hand of the Chinese Princess Turandot is doomed to die unless he is able to solve the three puzzles she poses. An unknown prince, attracted by Turandot's beauty, successfully confronts them. Instead of insisting on his rights and marrying Turandot against her will, he himself gives her a riddle, with the solution of which he puts his fate in her hands.
In his last opera "Turandot", Giacomo Puccini unfolds a previously unknown exotic color. Dramatic folk scenes, combined with grotesque-scherzo-like moments and the deepest lyricism create a monumental, spectacular fairy tale game.
