Biografie: Vanessa Lanch was born in Toronto, Canada and is of German heritage. She studied music and theatre at York University, where she received education in both voice and set and costume design. Vanessa went on to complete a masters degree in vocal performance at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London where she graduated with a mark of distinction. She also has a masters degree in opera performance from the Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität in Vienna, Austria. Additionally, she was a member of the Bayreuth Festival Chorus in Germany. Earlier operatic credits include Drusilla in Monteverdi's L'incoronazione di Poppea, Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Madama Cortese (Il viaggio a Reims), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Governess (The Turn of the Screw, Britten), and Giulietta (I Capuletti e i Montecchi). Vanessa is now expanding into roles of the young dramatic soprano repertoire, and recently sang her debut performances of Agathe (Der Freischütz, C. M. Weber), Elsa (Lohengrin) and Freia (Das Rheingold). She has also sung the role of Sieglinde in a semi-staged performance of Walküre and is currently preparing to sing it again in 2020 along with the roles Freia and Gutrune (Götterdämmerung) in Toronto, Canada. Vanessa has been recognized for her excellence in interpreting modern music. She was the third place winner of the prestigious Eckhardt-Gramatte Competition in Canada, the winner of the Tracey Chadwell Memorial Prize at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and premiered the role of Eva in Wolfgang Liebhart´s Edenarabeske at Wien Moderne. Additionally, she has received scholarships to the Britten Pears Young Artist Programme (Aldeburgh, England, sponsored by the Canadian Aldeburgh Foundation) for her performance of contemporary English and Strauss repertoire. Her interpretation of Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni) also granted her a scholarship to sing the role with conductor Kevin Mallon with the Centre for Opera Studies in Sulmona Italy. Solo concert credits for Vanessa include performances with Oakville Symphony Orchestra, Leipziger Barockorchester, Germany, Haydn Orchester Eisenstadt, Ensemble Neue Streicher Klosterneuburg, Collegium Instrumentale Brugense with conductor David Angus, Stratford Symphony Orchestra, the London Singers Canada and the Pax Christie Chorale, Toronto, Canada .Vanessa currently lives in Berlin, Germany where she freelances as both a singer and voice teacher.
