3Natalia Ushakova ist Carmen und singt die Habanera, die nach zwölffacher Umarbeitung die endgültige Vertonung als „Chanson espagnole“ und den heutigen Text von Bizet selbst erst während der Uraufführungsproben erhielt, mit ganz besonderer Laszivität. Sie gibt dieser Rolle mit ihrer sinnlich timbrierten Stimme eine besondere Kontur: Ihre Carmen ist tatsächlich der Inbegriff einer selbstbewussten, leidenschaftlichen Frau – keine Dame, aber auch keine Dirne – einfach eine verführerische Frau, die sich sichtlich für ihre Freude am Leben nicht schämt, sondern es in allen Facetten auskostet. Mit unbändiger Leidenschaft füllt und fühlt sie ihre Rolle fulminant, ist schauspielerisch wie gesanglich präsent. Das Publikum freut sich sichtlich darüber, eine so archaische Carmen erleben zu dürfen und man hat allen Grund zu vermuten, das Bizet selbst genau damit ebenfalls seine Freude gehabt hätte. Ushakova führt ihre noch immer lyrische Stimme, mit der sie makellos Koloraturrollen wie Lucia, Violetta, Königin der Nacht und Norma äußerst erfolgreich an vielen großen Häusern wie Wien, New York, Mailand, Buenos Aires, Moskau, Sankt Petersburg, Stuttgart, und Hamburg, gesungen hat, nun behutsam ins Mezzofach. Hier erlebt man eine Künstlerin, die mit Herz und Seele musiziert.
Then someone would say that summer theater only has to be shallow, arbitrary, harmless and, above all, entertaining. No, it doesn't have to be! The best example of this: The Baden stage, which shows "The Kiss of the Spider Woman " by John Kander (music), Fred Ebb (lyrics) and Terrence McNally ( book ) in the Stadttheater (plays until September 1) . A musical that has won many awards, but is still no easy fare. Just like the rest of the ensemble ( Andrea Huber as Molina's old mother), Elisabeth Ebner and the vocally very present Marta or Artur Ortens as the prison guard Esteban along with all the other participants make this enigmatic musical play a kind of Badenwood. At the podium of the Baden Orchestra , Christoph Huber provides the right carpet of sound; the clever, subtle choreography (Natalie Holtom) and the fabulous lighting design ( Michael Grundner ) round off the overall picture very well.
Sure: Baden is not Broadway. But what artistic director Michael Lakner does (not only) in the field of musicals deserves the highest recognition. Lakner brings pieces to the stage that are rarely or not at all heard in Austria. This now also includes the musical “Neun”, which premiered in 1982 – the singing and acting is mostly in German – as the Austrian premiere. An excavation that was more than worth it. Because "Nine" (the original title) not only won five Tony Awards back then, it was also made into a film and offers great actors a perfect platform. Raul Julia (at the premiere), Sergio Franci (on a world tour), Jonathan Pryce (in London) and Antonio Banderas (on Broadway) are just a few of the calibers who have taken on the male lead.
