Elle excelle dans les épanchements lyriques, comme dans la superbe scène 4 du II, « Di mia vita infelice » à la suite du très beau passage qui succède à l’introduction orchestrale avec solo de cor anglais, puis dans le très attendu « No, che il morir non è », applaudi comme un certain nombre d’autres airs."

Isis, musical tragedy in five acts and a prologue by Jean-Baptiste Lully (1632-1687), from a libretto by Philippe Quinault (1635-1688), was performed on January 5, 1677 in Saint Germain en Laye then in August at the Royal Academy of Music. Isis is Lully's seventh opera staged at the Beaune Baroque Opera Festival. Argument. Io, engaged to Hierax, is noticed by Jupiter who sets out to descend to earth to conquer her. Although in love with Hierax, Io does not resist the most powerful of the gods for long, who assures her that Juno will not be informed of their affair. Nothing escapes Juno, who has the nymph kidnapped, sequestered in the custody of Argus and subjected to cruel abuse. Jupiter, unable to oppose the inexorable course of fate, asks Juno for Io's grace. The latter grants it because in the meantime Jupiter has sworn to renounce the nymph forever. The two masters of Olympus raise Io to the rank of divinity under the name of Isis and a cult will be rendered to him in Egypt.
In line with Cavalli, for whom Serse's first original libretto was written, with this constant union of the serious and the comic, after Bononcini, Handel gives us his last opera, before renouncing the genre to devote himself exclusively to the 'oratorio. The cuts make it possible to save on the choirs, the trumpet and the horns, but deprive us of the victorious accents of the troops of Amastre, of the storm on the Hellespont, finally of the solemnity of the priests during the marriages which conclude ( the splendid final chorus is sung by the soloists alone).
Dans le double rôle d’Ino et de Junon la mezzo estonienne Dara Savinova séduit par son abattage et sa voix chaude et sonore, notamment dans l’air avec violoncelle obligé, puis repris par le violon solo « Turn, hopeless lover », un pur joyau de délicatesse, puis montre aussitôt après, dans l’air de fureur « You’ve undone me », toute l’étendue de son ambitus vocal, exacerbé dans le rôle furibond de Junon (« Awake Saturnia, from thy lethargy ! » ou le célèbre « Hence, Iris, hence away »).
