FRANCO CARECCIA was born in New York City, where he pursued his initial musical studies at the Manhattan School of Music, gaining a Bachelor of Music degree. He also studied privately with Maestro Dick Marzollo. His professional debut was at Carnegie Hall in 1977 in the Mozart Requiem conducted by Richard Westenburg, after which he left for Europe to take up a two year contract with the Young Artists programme of the Vienna State Opera. During this time he sang many supporting tenor roles under the baton of conductors such as Erich Leinsdorf, Olivero di Fabritiis, Michelangelo Veltri, Carlo Felice Cillario, Giuseppe Patané, Alberto Erede and Gerd Albrecht.
