The Mozarteum Orchestra is Salzburg’s symphony, festival and operatic orchestra. It was founded with the support of Mozart’s widow, Constanze, and their two sons Franz Xaver and Karl Thomas. Its roots go back to the “Cathedral Music Society and Mozarteum”, which was established in 1841. Today, the Mozarteum Orchestra is one of the leading symphony orchestras in Austria.


The major specialty of the Mozarteum Orchestra is a new, exciting interpretation of the works of the Viennese Classical period. Of course, Salzburg’s ‘local hero’, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, also has a leading role to play in their repertoire. Nonetheless, masterpieces of the Romantic period as well as contemporary pieces also get their turn.
