DON CARLOS - PERFECTION AND EMOTIONS
Each encounter with the work of Giuseppe Verdi is a considerable challenge and emotions for the theater, and for the audience an opportunity to participate in something important and unique. After the Paris premiere in March in 1867, Verdi was not entirely delighted with the effect of his work on Don Carlos, he made many changes in a short time and already in October of the same year in Bologna, Don Carlos fully triumphs, and Schiller's drama, which is the basis of the libretto, takes on new meanings. , deeper emotions and dramatic dynamics. Don Carlos is a musical drama brought to perfection, in which music strongly characterizes individual characters, effective group scenes do not appear only "for themselves", but are an integral part of the stage action, they emphasize, comment on and dynamize it. Each aria and ensembles are not only vocal performances, but most of all emotions and characteristics of individual characters; always relevant and always impressive!
The intricacies of feelings, friendly professions, political intrigues and the struggle for power are all in Schiller's drama. Even more visible - because "described" by excellent music - is in Verdi's opera. Listening to her, however, we run away from the daily race, although she does not really want to leave us. So it is worth listening, distracting your thoughts and trying to forget about "here and now".
The more that in this staged concert performance we guarantee musical and vocal interpretation at the highest level performed by the soloists, choir and orchestra of the Grand Theater in Łódź. The main roles will be played by Dominik Sutowicz, Monika Cichocka, Anna Wierzbicka, Bernadetta Grabias, Agnieszka Makówka, Grzegorz Szostak, Robert Ulatowski and Łukasz Motkowicz. The director of this extraordinary concert, with surreal images of Wojciech Siudmak in the background, is Michał Znaniecki.
In the premiere event on March 19, 2021, the main roles were played by: Aleksandra Kurzak (Elżbieta), Roberto Alagna (Don Carlos), Andrzej Dobber (Posa), Rafał Siwek (Filip II), Monika Ledzion-Porczyńska (Eboli) and soloists, choir, ballet and the orchestra of the Grand Theater in Łódź, conducted by Maestro Vladimir Kiradjiev.
In our Theater it will be the third meeting with Verdi's Don Carlos - after being fully staged in 1979 and performed in concert in 1991.
