Costume designer Cathrine Ahlsen shows how the costumes for Amahl and the three wise men are created. Three keywords are reuse, sun and moon.

Amahl og de tre vise menn er en klassisk familieopera og en julefortelling med kjente referanser til vår kulturhistorie. Det er den klassiske «hellig tre konger på vei til Jesus-barnet»-fortellingen med en ny vri.

Etter at Amahl og moren hans har lagt seg, banker det på døren. Moren ber Amahl sjekke hvem som står utenfor og tror gutten skrøner når han forteller at det ikke bare står en, men både to og tre konger på utsiden. De vil søke ly for natten og forteller at de leter etter et barn. De tre vise menn blir invitert inn og det blir en natt helt utenom det vanlige.

Familieoperaen har vært vist verden rundt siden premieren i 1951, og var i mange år fast innslag på amerikansk fjernsyn på julaften. Gi deg og barna en julefortelling med dybde og med en flott musikalsk opplevelse - fint å ta med seg inn i julehøytiden.

Amahl and the Night Visitors by Menotti is a much-loved opera for the whole family, which since its premiere in 1951 has become a Christmas classic around the world.

Amahl, a poor widow’s son, who can only walk with the help of a crutch, is amazed one evening to see a huge star hovering over their house. Three strangers arrive and seek shelter for the night. This is the beginning of a night filled with wonders for Amahl and his mother.

Amahl and the Night Visitors is a traditional Christmas tale with familiar references to our cultural heritage. It's the story of the Three Kings in search of Baby Jesus, but with a twist. Here, the main character is the poor and disabled young boy Amahl, who lives with his mother.
