What an ambitious and stimulating proposition this creation by Jennifer Walshe is! The Irish composer delivers a history of the human voice, as iconoclastic as it is subjective, with the complicity of the Brussels group HYOID voices. In the form of a musical theatre, the vocal performances are linked over episodes where, among other things, an appearance by Gwyneth Paltrow at the Oscars, breathing exercises to which the public are invited, an operatic death scene , without forgetting a hilarious sequence around a video of Tom Cruise extolling the specious virtues of Scientology... The piece, superbly interpreted by two mezzo-sopranos, a tenor and a baritone, goes through all the facets and clichés of human communication.

La compositrice irlandaise livre une histoire de la voix humaine, aussi iconoclaste que subjective, avec la complicité du groupe bruxellois HYOID voices. Sous la forme d’un théâtre musical, les performances vocales s’enchaînent au fil d’épisodes où se succèdent, entre autres, une apparition de Gwyneth Paltrow aux Oscars, des exercices de respiration auxquels sont conviés le public, une scène de mort opératique, sans oublier une hilarante séquence autour d’une vidéo de Tom Cruise vantant les vertus spécieuses de la Scientologie… La pièce, superbement interprétée par deux mezzo-sopranos, un ténor et un baryton, passe à la moulinette toutes les facettes et clichés de la communication humaine.
