In serenades, operas or pop songs, Love has always fascinated mankind, including in eighteenth-century Europe. Acis & Galatea is a “pastoral opera”, at the crossroads of cantata, masque, opera and the later English oratorio. Handel's later work bears penetrating traces of the world of Henry Purcell, the maestro of England, Handel's second homeland.

In theater season 16/17, BarokOpera Amsterdam was invited by the young Swiss company Opéra Louise in residence at Théâtre Equilibre-Nuithonie in Fribourg (CH). Director Julien Chavaz and conductor Frédérique Chauvet performed the opera in Switzerland, the Netherlands and France.

In serenades, opera’s of popsongs heeft de Liefde de mensheid altijd gefascineerd, zo ook in het Europa van de achttiende eeuw. Acis & Galatea is een “pastorale opera”, op het kruispunt van cantate, masque, opera en het latere Engelse oratorium. Händels latere werk draagt indringende sporen van de wereld van Henry Purcell, de maestro van Engeland, Händels tweede vaderland.

In theaterseizoen 16/17 werd BarokOpera Amsterdam uitgenodigd door het jonge Zwitserse gezelschap Opéra Louise in residence bij Théâtre Equilibre-Nuithonie van Fribourg (CH). Regisseur Julien Chavaz en dirigent Frédérique Chauvet brachten de opera in Zwitserland, Nederland en Frankrijk.
