Is classical music antagonistic to flamenco? Can two genres so apparently distant understand each other? The answer is Archangel. A cantaor as daring as Huelva-born Arcángel was needed, attentive to flamenco tradition but always open to innovation, daring and the avant-garde, to try to cross from the edge of the arias or the interludes of Il trovatore, El barbero de Sevilla or Madama Butterfly , as well as other selected pages of the zarzuela, to the beach of flamenco.
The journey is undoubtedly promising and exciting. Well, Archangel does not undertake it alone. With a musical direction reinforced by the wisdom of Isidro Muñoz, Arcángel has the direction, composition, arrangements, and lead guitar of José María Gallardo del Rey, a musician with a gift for languages who has spent a long time swinging brilliantly between both genres. plus the Totem Ensemble Quintet, four of whose five members are musicians from the Royal Seville Symphony Orchestra.
Arcángel gives the (bel) cante. With knowledge, responsibility and respect. But also with the ambition of exploring new musical horizons for classical and flamenco. With Arcángel there is no antagonistic music. To join them, there are only bridges.
