«Ariodante» ist Händels 29. Oper und gilt als eines seiner musikalisch schönsten und handlungsmässig klarsten Werke. Prinzessin Ginevra und Ritter Ariodante sind ein Paar. Der schottische König, Ginevras Vater, ist mit der Verbindung einverstanden und will dem Freier seinen Thron überlassen. Doch Ritter Polinesso will Ginevra für sich haben. Polinesso wird wiederum von Dalinda, der Kammerzofe Ginevras geliebt. Eine Liebe, die allerdings nicht erwidert wird. Mit einem bösen Trick gelingt es Polinesso, Ginevra in Ariodantes Augen als untreu erscheinen zu lassen – nur eine Reihe von Zufällen bewirkt für die verzweifelten Liebenden doch noch ein Happy End.

Alte Musik und altes Handwerk, Bühnen- und Puppenzauber in Einem – dies ist das Geheimnis der gemeinsamen Produktion der LAUTTEN COMPAGNEY BERLIN und des Puppentheaters CARLO COLLA E FIGLI. Seit über 200 Jahren lässt die Mailänder Kompagnie die Puppen tanzen. Es sind keine gewöhnlichen Marionetten, sondern märchenhafte Geschöpfe, deren Leben am seidenen Faden hängt. Die Marionetten brachten früher die Kultur aufs Land, die sonst nur den Städtern vorbehalten war. Sie spielten die grossen Opern Verdis, die an der berühmten Scala gespielt wurden, mit ihren Mitteln nach. Carlo Colla e Figli kann man deshalb zu Recht als «Puppen- Scala» bezeichnen. Nach den gemeinsamen Händel-Produktionen «Rinaldo» (2011) und «Giustino» (2017) ist «Ariodante» bereits die dritte Zusammenarbeit dieser Art.

“Ariodante” is Handel's 29th opera and is considered one of his most musically beautiful and plot-wise clearest works. Princess Ginevra and knight Ariodante are a couple. The Scottish king, Ginevra's father, agrees to the connection and wants to give his throne to the suitor. But Knight Polinesso wants Ginevra for himself. Polinesso is in turn loved by Dalinda, Ginevra's maid. A love that is, however, unrequited. With a nasty trick, Polinesso manages to make Ginevra appear unfaithful in Ariodante's eyes - only a series of coincidences brings about a happy ending for the desperate lovers.

Early music and old crafts, stage and puppet magic in one – this is the secret of the joint production of LAUTTEN COMPAGNEY BERLIN and the CARLO COLLA E FIGLI puppet theater . The Milan company has been making the puppets dance for over 200 years. They are not ordinary puppets, but fairy-tale creatures whose lives hang by a thread. The puppets used to bring culture to the countryside that was otherwise only reserved for city dwellers. They recreated Verdi's great operas, which were played at the famous Scala, using their means. Carlo Colla e Figli can therefore rightly be described as a “doll Scala”. After the joint Handel productions “Rinaldo” (2011) and “Giustino” (2017), “Ariodante” is the third collaboration of this kind.
