On the way back from visiting their grandparents to their home village, the siblings Konrad and Sanna get lost in heavy snowfall in the high mountains. Residents from both places go in search of them. Because they have found shelter in a cave, the children survive the winter night unscathed. The shared experience of concern and the joy of seeing each other finally brings the people from the villages, who previously met with rejection, closer to each other. Bergkristall from the Bunte Steine ​​collection is considered the most poignant story by Adalbert Stifter (1805–1868). A special feature of the Austrian author's prose works are the representations of nature, which function as a mirror of the characters' mental landscapes. Bergkristall has already been filmed several times. The story is now being set to music as a commissioned work for the Tiroler Landestheater. The libretto was written by the Tyrolean writer and journalist Alois Schöpf, who is best known as a columnist for the Tyrolean daily newspaper and founder of the Innsbruck Promenade Concerts. The appropriate musical atmosphere for this "Opera Austria" is created by the Innsbruck composer Michael FP Huber. He completed his studies in his hometown and in Vienna. Many of his works - including piano pieces and chamber music as well as symphonies, solo concertos and vocal works - were premiered by well-known Innsbruck musicians and ensembles, such as the orchestra of the St. Blasius Academy or the chamber orchestra InnStrumenti.
