As part of its centenary, London Phoenix Orchestra presents a varied programme of music to celebrate the year of their foundation. Sibelius said of his Sixth Symphony " always makes me remember the scent of the first snow". Its freshness is contrasted by Bartók’s dazzling folksong-inspired Dance Suite, commissioned to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the merging of the cities Buda and Pest to form the new Hungarian capital. George Gershwin’s Rhapsody In Blue, premiered in February 1924 at the famous New York Aeolian Hall concert "An Experiment in Modern Music", concludes the evening.
