Jaroslav Křička Czech Nativity Scene, Christmas opera, premiere 11/10/2009

On October 11, 2009, the opera company will give the first premiere of this theater season a Christmas opera with a prologue, three acts and an epilogue, composed by Wallachian native Jarolav Křička to a libretto by Jan Port and Bohuš Stejskal. The authors drew from their Vinohrady production of the dramatic range of the Czech Passion and mainly from folk plays and carols.
The plot consists of generally known biblical stories from the expulsion of Adam and Eve from Paradise, the promise of Mary to the carpenter Joseph, the announcement by the angel Gabriel about the choice of Mary as the mother of the Savior, the census, the journey of Joseph and Mary to Bethlehem and the birth of the baby Jesus in the manger, the journey of the three kings and the handing over of gifts , the slaughter of innocents by King Herod's army, to Simeon's prophecy about the Savior, redeemer of mankind. Church themes are interspersed with secular folk elements of a Wallachian village. Musically, the author combines folk melodies with modern elements of the 20th century.
This Christmas-themed opera premiered on January 15, 1949 at the 5th of May Theater in Prague (Prague State Opera). It was performed in our theater in 1969 and 1990.
J. Křička is the author of the operas Ogari, Hipolyta, Tlustý granddedeček, Zastánívčko, etc., many choral, song and instrumental opuses. The composition "Babičin's March Waltz" entered the memory of the general public.
All members of the opera ensemble, as well as almost all soloists of the opera, participate in the preparation of the premiere. The children's choirs of Ilji Hurník Opava Primary School – Domino and Cvrčci and selected students of the Opava Church Conservatory were invited to cooperate.

11. října 2009 uvede operní soubor jako první premiéru této divadelní sezony vánoční operu o prologu, třech dějstvích a epilogu, kterou složil valašský rodák Jarolav Křička na libreto Jana Porta a Bohuše Stejskala. Autoři čerpali ze své vinohradské inscenace dramatického pásma České pašije a hlavně z lidových her a koled.
Děj tvoří obecně známé biblické příběhy od vyhnání Adama a Evy z ráje, zaslíbení Marie tesaři Josefovi, zvěstování anděla Gabriela o volbě Marie jako matky Spasitele, sčítání lidu, cesta Josefa a Marie do Betléma a narození Ježíška ve chlévě, putování tří králů a předávaní darů, vraždění neviňátek vojskem krále Herodesa, až po proroctví Simeona o Spasiteli vykupiteli lidstva. Církevní tematika je proložena světskými lidovými prvky valašské vesnice. Hudebně autor spojuje lidovou melodiku s moderními prvky 20. století.
Premiéru měla tato vánočně laděná opera 15. 1. 1949 v Divadle 5. května v Praze (Státní opera Praha). V našem divadle byla uvedena v roce 1969 a 1990.
J. Křička je autorem oper Ogaři, Hipolyta, Tlustý pradědeček, Zastaveníčko, atd., mnoha sborových, písňových a instrumentálních opusů. Do paměti široké veřejnosti se zapsal skladbičkou Babičin maršovský valčík.
Na přípravě premiéry se podílejí všechny složky operního souboru a také téměř všichni sólisté opery. Ke spolupráci byly vyzvány dětské sbory Základní školy Ilji Hurníka Opava – Domino a Cvrčci a vybraní studenti Církevní konzervatoře Opava.
