À plus de 80 ans, le guitariste et chanteur Boubacar Traoré revient aux racines du blues mandingue, avec l’album Tiékoro Ba Diougou enregistré au Mali en compagnie de jeunes musiciens.

Si la carrière internationale de Boubacar Traoré débute en 1990 avec Mariama, premier album où son style dépouillé et mélancolique fait merveille, son parcours démarre dans les années 60 : il est alors le premier à utiliser la guitare électrique pour jouer une musique d’inspiration mandingue. Si ses tubes font danser une jeune génération malienne en quête d’émancipation, le coup d’état militaire de 1968 le réduit au silence. Ce n’est qu’à la fin des années 80 que Boubacar Traoré retrouve la lumière et le public, grâce à la télévision nationale. Au début des années 90, le guitariste vit à Paris et enchaîne bientôt disques et tournées internationales. En 2017, il collabore avec des musiciens du sud des États-Unis pour l’album Dounia Tabolo, où musiques cajun et zydeco colorent ses chansons. Aujourd’hui, Boubacar Traoré revient à ses racines mandingues avec Tiékoro Ba Diougou, enregistré au Mali avec des jeunes musiciens du cru, collection de titres d’une grande douceur qui fait la part belle aux instruments traditionnels (Kamalé ngoni, doum-doum, calebasse et djéli n’goni).
