Corelli Music’s Easter Concert
Oratorio / OrchestralConcert
Oratorio / OrchestralConcert
Corelli Music will celebrate Easter on April 9 at 7 p.m. in Tallinn's St. Michael's Church and on April 11 at 8 p.m. in Tartu St. John's Church. Countertenor Martin Karu and the Corelli Baroque Orchestra will perform on period instruments under the direction of Martin Sildos . The program includes Johann Sebastian Bach's "Widerstehe doch der Sünde" BWV 54, Dieterich Buxtehude's "Jubilate Domino" BuxWV 64, Arcangelo Corelli's Concerto grosso op 6 no. 7 in D major and Antonio Vivaldi's "Nisi Dominus" RV 608. The most beautiful arias and cantatas are from the Baroque period composers wrote for this somewhat mysterious voice type, countertenor. There are still few such singers in Estonia, the best known of them are Risto Joost and Ivo Posti . The Corelli Baroque Orchestra has been operating under this name since December 2006, continuing the tradition of era-conscious performances on baroque instruments for over 30 years. Every year, 2-3 concerts are given with various major forms of the Baroque period, both in Tallinn and elsewhere in Estonia. On the first major foreign tour at the XXV International Festival "Al Bustan" in Beirut (Lebanon), the orchestra participated in performances of JS Bach's "Magnificat", "John's Passion", "Mass in B minor". Martin Karu is the first Estonian and Estonian countertenor to study classical singing at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London, where he went after his studies at the Georg Ots School of Music in Risto Joost's singing class. After successfully completing his bachelor's degree under the supervision of Andrew Watts, he will continue with his master's studies. Despite his youth, Karu has already performed successfully at many concerts both in London and Estonia, participated in an international singing competition in London, received several scholarships and awards. The Easter concerts are the young soloist's first major solo concerts with an orchestra, previously he has sung many arias and chamber concerts.
