In Jörg Widmanns Das Gesicht im Spiegel hofft das Ehepaar Patrizia und Bruno für seinen Biotech-Konzern auf den Durchbruch am desolaten Aktienmarkt: Ihr herausragender Ingenieur Milton hat es geschafft, eine lebendige Kopie Patrizias herzustellen, die sie Justine nennen. Sie lernt von Milton zu sprechen und sich mit ihrer Umwelt vertraut zu machen. Justine kann sogar Schmerz empfinden, erneuert sich jedoch sogleich nach jeder Verletzung.

Es muss allerdings verhindert werden, dass Justine sich im Spiegel ansieht: Sie darf nicht erfahren, dass sie eine Kopie Patrizias ist.

Die beiden Männer Bruno und Milton verlieben sich in Patrizias Kopie. Bruno, dessen Beziehung zu Patrizia längst erkaltet ist, will mit Justine ein neues Leben beginnen und flüchtet mit Miltons Produktionsplänen. So verfügt er theoretisch über die Möglichkeit, Justine immer und überall reproduzieren zu können. Doch dazu kommt es nicht…

Das Gesicht im Spiegel mit einem Libretto von Roland Schimmelpfennig, einem der am meisten gespielten Gegenwartsdramatiker Deutschlands, wurde bereits 2003 im Rahmen der Münchner Opern-Festspiele uraufgeführt und hat bis heute nichts an Aktualität verloren. An der NOW erleben Sie dieses Musiktheaterwerk in der Inszenierung des venezolanischen Regisseurs Carlos Wagner; die Ausstattung stammt von Christof Cremer.

In Jörg Widmann's The Face in the Mirror , the married couple Patrizia and Bruno hope for their biotech company to make a breakthrough on the desolate stock market: their outstanding engineer Milton has managed to create a living copy of Patrizia, whom they call Justine. She learns to speak from Milton and to familiarize herself with her surroundings. Justine can even feel pain, but renews itself immediately after any injury.

However, it must be prevented that Justine looks in the mirror: she must not find out that she is a copy of Patricia.

The two men Bruno and Milton fall in love with Patrizia's copy. Bruno, whose relationship with Patrizia has long since cooled, wants to start a new life with Justine and flees with Milton's production plans. In theory, he has the ability to reproduce Justine anywhere and anytime. But this does not occur…

The Face in the Mirror with a libretto by Roland Schimmelpfennig, one of the most frequently performed contemporary dramatists in Germany, premiered in 2003 as part of the Munich Opera Festival and has lost none of its topicality to this day. At the NOW you can experience this music theater work in the production of the Venezuelan director Carlos Wagner; the equipment comes from Christof Cremer.
