"Shining moon, enthroned in the sky,
at night my songs rise to you." Julia

Julia, the young heiress to a fortune, can no longer stand the guardianship of her uncle and aunt. She has the court declare her of age so that she can marry her cousin Roderich, who has been banished to Batavia by her uncle. However, the greedy uncle has completely different plans for his niece: he wants Julia to marry his nephew August. That evening, when she receives confirmation that she has come of age, a stranger appears who claims he is Roderich...

Der Vetter aus Dingsda premiered in 1921 at the Berlin Theater am Nollendorfplatz and has since been considered Eduard Künneke's (1885-1953) most successful musical farce. He owes this to his frivolous plot, which comes up with drastic situational comedy, the brisk Latin American dances and catchy musical numbers such as "I'm just a poor wanderer", "Luck often comes quite unexpectedly" or "I live in Batavia for seven years".
